Thranduil in Winter

“But there was in Thranduil’s heart a still deeper shadow. He had seen the horror of Mordor and could not forget it. If ever he looked south its memory dimmed the light of the Sun.”

Eros / Cupid work in progress detail

~ Guards from Mount Olympus are seeking a dangerous madman who escaped on Valentine’s day: Eros, also known as Cupid. He’s naked, armed, and terrifyingly interested in your love life.
If you see him you’re advised to run to your nearest shrine, make an offering to Zeus, and ask to be turned into a tree. ~

Acrylics, chalk, pencils, and gold leaf on paper.
Prints etc available here.

LotR gilded landscape sketch cards

Lots of experimentation went into these tiny Middle-earth landscapes. All of them have handmade borders made from pieces of filigree, and then gilded in gold or silver with a few tiny crystals.

All cards measure 2.5×3.5 inches. Stickers, cards and shiny things of them can be found here. :)

For the ‘Shire’ card I went back to a technique I tried for the first time with a Star Wars set (for Topps here) but made even shinier with all the bright colours of Hobbiton. Crystal flakes, sequins, and individual bits of glitter were pressed into glass glaze.

Gilded Snow White prints

In my Etsy shop now: hand-embellished fine art prints of Snow White and the Poisoned Apple, gilded with gold leaf.
See listing for more details.
And remember kids: an apple a day keeps the prince away. So maybe try pears instead.

Elves at the border

I wanted a border for my Elf portraits, and I couldn’t find what I wanted so I drew it.
But designing it was a long-winded affair, and with so many changes that the best way to show it was with an animation (scroll down).
Above it is a photo of the work in progress, impasto gold paint on black drawing paper.
